New Voices Festival: Departures II

The program also includes works by Katherine Balch, Charlotte Bray and Aida Shirazi performed by vocalists Lucy Fitz-Gibbon, Charlotte Mundy and Emily Triebold and pianists Brent Funderburk and Ryan McCullough. The Pleasures of the Quarrel

Members of the NYBDC and Catherine Turocy will collaborate in a new creation under the direction of Rebecca Harris-Warrick, The Pleasures of the Quarrel: Three Parisian Hits from the Contested Operatic Season of 1753. The project imagines a mash-up by three factions of opera lovers in mid-18th-century Paris, during the so-called “War of the Buffoons”. Using excerpts from three memorable works, it will highlight the aesthetic concerns of the day while giving them a lively airing within a contemporary frame. More information can be found here.

Senses with a handmade book for each audience member from artist Kathryn Hamilton with special artifacts that correspond with each piece, expanding your experience of the work beyond the usual sight and sound. Curated and directed by Beth Morrison and Paola Prestini, the performances features spectacular works by Juhi Bansal, Gabriela Frank, Molly Joyce, Mary Kouyoumdjian, Missy Mazzoli, Angélica Negrón, Emma O’Halloran, Paola Prestini, Ellen Reid, Sarah Kirkland Snider, and Du Yun.
